Frequently asked questions

OKR Basics
What are OKRs?

OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) are a goal-setting framework used by teams to define measurable goals and track their outcomes. An Objective is a qualitative, inspirational goal, while Key Results are quantitative metrics that measure progress toward that objective. The framework was popularized by companies like Google and Intel.

What is OKR Studio?

OKR Studio is a platform for managing Objectives and Key Results. It guides teams through the full OKR cycle: planning objectives, writing measurable key results, running regular check-ins, and evaluating results at the end of each period. Unlike spreadsheets, it automates progress scoring, provides alignment dashboards, and uses AI to validate that your key results are specific and measurable.

Who should use OKR Studio?

OKR Studio is ideal for teams, departments, and organizations who want to implement structured goal-setting practices. It's perfect for teams adopting OKRs for the first time or those looking to improve their existing OKR processes. Whether you're a startup aligning your first team or an enterprise standardizing OKRs across departments, OKR Studio adapts to your needs.

What OKR best practices does OKR Studio support?

OKR Studio embodies best practices from thought leaders like John Doerr and Christina Wodtke. We support quarterly and custom cycle durations, cascading alignment, check-in workflows, confidence scoring, and evaluation retrospectives. Our platform guides teams through proper OKR formulation, tracks progress transparently, and connects individual goals to company objectives.

Features & Capabilities
How does OKR Studio help with OKRs?

OKR Studio provides comprehensive OKR management with planning, execution, and evaluation phases. Create objectives and key results, track progress with check-ins, monitor alignment dashboards, and run evaluation workflows. The platform supports quarterly cycles and custom cycle durations, confidence scoring, and team alignment views. Unlike basic spreadsheets, we automate calculations, track history, and provide analytics.

What are OKR cycles and how do they work?

OKR cycles are time-bound periods (typically quarterly) where teams set, track, and evaluate objectives. OKR Studio supports creating cycles, planning objectives within them, conducting regular check-ins, and running end-of-cycle evaluations. You can customize cycle durations to match your organizational rhythm (monthly, quarterly, annually).

What integrations does OKR Studio support?

OKR Studio integrates with Linear and Jira for linking work items to key results, Azure DevOps for tracking development progress, and Confluence for exporting OKRs to documentation spaces. Professional and Enterprise plans include these integrations, and Enterprise customers get API access for custom integrations.

What analytics features are available?

OKR Studio provides progress tracking, completion trends, team alignment dashboards, confidence scoring analytics, and historical cycle comparisons. Professional plans include advanced analytics with custom reports, progress charts, and team performance insights. These help identify patterns, celebrate wins, and spot areas needing attention.

How does the AI Writing Assistant work?

The AI assistant has been trained on over 10,000 real-world OKRs from successful companies. When you describe your goal in plain language, it analyzes patterns from similar objectives and generates a properly formatted OKR with measurable key results. It also validates existing OKRs against best practices, checking for SMART criteria compliance.

Does OKR Studio integrate with Slack?

Yes. The Slack integration lets your team submit check-ins, view progress summaries, and receive at-risk alerts directly in Slack. Five slash commands cover the full workflow: /okr checkin, /okr summary, /okr status, /okr list, and /okr help. Automated notifications include weekly progress summaries, daily at-risk alerts, and personal check-in reminders via DM. Available on Professional and Enterprise plans.

How does OKR Studio grade objectives?

At the end of each cycle, every key result is scored on a 0–1.0 scale and receives an automatic red/amber/green status (below 0.4 is red, 0.4–0.7 is amber, above 0.7 is green). Scores roll up into an objective-level 1–5 rating that factors in key result completion, team alignment, and qualitative assessment. The evaluation captures what worked, what did not, and lessons to carry into the next quarter — replacing ad-hoc retrospectives with a repeatable, data-driven process.

Does OKR Studio have custom dashboards?

We ship purpose-built views for the OKR cycle: tree view, team alignment, progress tracking, and evaluation grading. We do not build a generic chart builder. If you need pivot-table analytics, our CSV export feeds your BI tool of choice. We focus on the views that make the OKR ritual work rather than building a general-purpose dashboard tool.

Does OKR Studio track standalone KPIs?

OKR Studio focuses on Objectives and Key Results, not standalone KPIs. KPIs change slower than OKRs and are better served by your existing BI or analytics stack. We focus on the OKR ritual - plan, check in, evaluate - and your BI tool focuses on metrics. Key Results can reference any metric, but the ongoing tracking of that metric lives in your source system.

Comparisons
OKR Studio vs Spreadsheets - Why use a dedicated tool?

While spreadsheets are flexible, they require manual maintenance, lack automation, and don't scale well for teams. OKR Studio provides automated progress calculations and scoring, built-in check-in workflows and reminders, team alignment visualizations, historical tracking and cycle comparisons, integration with work tracking tools, and collaboration features with real-time updates. Spreadsheets work for small teams starting out; OKR Studio scales with your organization.

How is OKR Studio different from Delvyn Studio?

OKR Studio is focused exclusively on OKR management — cycles, objectives, key results, check-ins, and evaluations. Delvyn Studio is a broader Product Operating Model platform that includes OKRs plus product vision, strategy, discovery, and AI-powered agent specifications. Both share identical OKR functionality. Choose OKR Studio if you only need goal management. Choose Delvyn Studio if your product team also needs strategy and discovery tools. Professional subscribers get access to both platforms at no extra cost.

Getting Started
How do I get started with OKR Studio?

Getting started is simple: Sign up for a free trial at okrstud.io, create your first OKR cycle, add your team members, define objectives and key results, and set up regular check-ins. Our onboarding guide helps you implement best practices from day one. Most teams are productive within hours.

How much does OKR Studio cost?

We offer three plans: Free ($0 forever, up to 3 users), Professional ($9/month or $8/month if paid annually), and Enterprise (custom pricing). All paid plans include integrations, analytics, and unlimited OKR cycles.

View detailed pricing →
Is there a free trial?

Yes! We offer a 14-day free trial with full access to all Professional plan features. No credit card required to start. This gives you enough time to set up your first OKR cycle, onboard your team, and see the value. After the trial, choose the plan that fits your needs or continue with the Free plan.

How long does implementation take?

Most teams are up and running within 1 day. Basic setup (cycles, teams, initial OKRs) takes hours, not weeks. Full adoption across all teams typically happens over 2-4 weeks as teams complete their first cycle.

Pricing & Plans
What's the difference between pricing plans?

The Free plan is great for individuals or very small teams (up to 3 users). Professional plan offers unlimited users, advanced analytics, integrations, and custom cycles at $9/month ($8/month annually). Enterprise plans include SSO, advanced security, dedicated support, and custom features.

How does role-based pricing work?

The $9/month pricing applies only to active OKR contributors who create and manage objectives. Viewers and Stakeholders who only view OKRs can be added to your account completely free, making it cost-effective to scale transparency across your organization.

How do you compare to flat-rate OKR tools with “no per-user fees”?

Flat-rate pricing sounds cheaper until you read the fine print — most tiers cap cycles, integrations, or the AI, and everyone pays the same whether they run OKRs or just read them. OKR Studio only charges for active contributors ($9/month, or $8 annually); viewers and stakeholders are free, so transparency scales at no cost. What you’re paying for isn’t seats — it’s the analysis layer: cycle-aware at-risk detection, drafted check-ins, and Slack and MCP that read your whole cycle. We price the intelligence, not the login.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes, you can cancel your subscription anytime. There are no long-term contracts or cancellation fees. If you cancel, you'll retain access until the end of your billing period, and your data remains available for export.

Security & Privacy
How secure is my data?

Security is our top priority. We use enterprise-grade encryption (TLS 1.3+ in transit, AES-256 at rest), regular security audits, automatic backups, role-based access control, and two-factor authentication. Enterprise customers get additional security features including Entra ID, custom data retention, and audit logs.

Who owns my data?

You own your data, always. We never sell or share your data with third parties. You can export all your OKR data anytime in standard formats (CSV, JSON). If you cancel, you have 30 days to export everything before deletion. Full GDPR and CCPA compliance.

Support & Resources
What support do you offer?

All users get access to our knowledge base, video tutorials, and email support. Free plan includes community support. Professional plan adds priority email support (24-hour response). Enterprise includes dedicated customer success manager, custom training, and priority phone support.

Do you provide OKR training?

Yes! All plans include access to our learning center with OKR best practices, video tutorials, and guides. Professional and Enterprise plans include live onboarding sessions. Enterprise customers get custom OKR training for their teams.

How do I invite team members?

Go to the sidebar or Settings > Members and click 'Invite Member'. Enter their email, select a role (Admin, Team Leader, or Team Member), and optionally assign them to a team. They'll receive an email invitation to join your workspace.

Can I export my data?

Yes, Professional and Enterprise plans include data export capabilities. You can export to CSV or JSON, or use our API to access your data programmatically if you are on the Enterprise plan.

What We Deliberately Don’t Build
Why doesn’t OKR Studio track standalone KPIs?

OKR Studio focuses on outcomes, not lagging indicators. KPIs change slower than OKRs and are better served by your existing BI stack — Power BI, Looker, Datadog, or whatever your team already uses. Key Results can reference any metric, but the ongoing tracking of that metric lives in your source system. We keep OKR Studio focused on the plan–check-in–evaluate ritual so it stays simple and fast.

Why doesn’t OKR Studio have a custom chart builder?

We ship purpose-built views for the OKR cycle: tree view, team alignment, progress tracking, and evaluation grading. We deliberately don’t build a general-purpose charting tool because every team already has one. Export to CSV and use your preferred visualization tool for pivot-table analytics. We focus on the views that make the OKR ritual work, not on recreating Tableau.

Why doesn’t the AI act autonomously?

OKR Studio’s AI assists your workflow — drafting key results, validating measurability, summarizing check-ins — but it never acts without your approval. We don’t build agentic skills that modify your OKRs or send updates on your behalf. For autonomous AI workflows, connect your preferred AI platform via our MCP Server and keep OKR Studio as the source of truth that the agent reads from.

Why doesn’t OKR Studio ship a dozen named AI agents?

Some OKR tools now market a roster of named AI agents — one to author, one to review, one to coach, each dressed up as a role on your org chart. We think that’s theater. What actually moves a cycle is a single focused assistant that reads your OKRs, validates key results, and flags what’s slipping against cycle pace. One analysis layer that does the real work beats a cast of agents that role-play your leadership team — OKRs Tool reports teams are more than twice as likely to simply accept a missed goal when AI only helps write goals (35%) than when AI helps them course-correct mid-cycle (14%). If you want autonomous workflows, connect your own AI via our MCP Server and let it read from OKR Studio as the source of truth.
