Vision

Write your organization's vision in OKR Studio and use it as the starting point for your objectives and key results

What is a Vision?

A vision describes where your organization wants to be in the long run. It answers why your OKRs exist: objectives are the ambitious steps toward the vision, and key results measure whether you are getting closer. In OKR Studio the vision is written at the organization level and is visible to every member.

What to write down

  • • Vision Title: a short, memorable name for the vision
  • • Vision Statement: the future you are aiming for
  • • Mission Statement: how you will get there
  • • Time Horizon: for example 2-3 years or 5 years
  • • Owner and Status, shown in the Properties panel
  • • Optionally, a Vision Canvas (For, Who, The / is a, That, Unlike, Our Product)

Who can do what

  • • Admins and Product Leaders can write and edit
  • • Team Members can read
  • • Stakeholders can read
Turning Strategy on

Vision and Strategy are optional and are off until an Admin enables them for the organization. The feature is available on all plans.

  1. 1. Sign in as an Admin and open Settings, then General
  2. 2. Open the Features tab
  3. 3. Turn on Strategy (write your product vision and strategy and link them to OKRs)
  4. 4. Click Save Feature Settings
  5. 5. A Strategy group with Vision, Strategies and Products appears in the sidebar for every member, above OKRs

Turning it off is safe

Switching Strategy off hides Vision and Strategy for everyone, but nothing is deleted. Turn it back on and your vision and strategy are exactly as you left them.

Writing your vision
  1. 1. Open Strategy, then Vision in the sidebar
  2. 2. Click "Write your vision" if you have none yet, or "Add vision" if you do
  3. 3. Enter a title and confirm; you land on the edit page
  4. 4. Fill in the Vision Statement and Mission Statement, and set the Time Horizon, Owner and Status
  5. 5. Optionally fill in the Vision Canvas tab
  6. 6. Save it so the whole organization can read it
From vision to objectives and key results

Example

Vision: "Every small clinic in our region books patients without a phone call."
Objective: Make online booking the default way patients reach us.
Key result: Raise the share of bookings made online from 35% to 60%.
Key result: Reduce booking abandonment from 40% to 20%.

Best Practices

  • • Keep the vision short, clear and inspiring
  • • Describe outcomes for customers, not a list of tasks
  • • Revisit it when you plan a new cycle
  • • Keep objectives qualitative and key results measurable
