Products
Group a vision and its strategies under a product when your organization runs more than one product
A product is what a vision is for. If your organization runs one product, you do not need products at all: write a company-wide vision and its strategies and you are done. If you run several, add each one as a product and give it its own vision and strategies, so every team can see which direction their OKRs serve.
What a product holds
- • Name and Description
- • Team and Owner, set in the Properties panel
- • The visions written for it, each with its strategies
Who can do what
- • Admins and Product Leaders can add, edit and delete products
- • Team Members can read
- • Stakeholders can read
Products are part of the optional Strategy feature. Once an Admin turns Strategy on in Settings, then General, then Features, the Strategy group appears in the sidebar above OKRs with three items: Products, Vision and Strategies. The feature is available on all plans.
Turning it off is safe
Switching Strategy off hides Products, Vision and Strategies for everyone, but nothing is deleted. Turn it back on and everything is as you left it.
- 1. Open Strategy, then Products in the sidebar
- 2. Click "Add product"
- 3. Enter the product name and confirm
- 4. Open the product and click Edit to add a Description, and to set the Team and Owner in the Properties panel
- 5. Save; the product now appears in the list for everyone in your organization
- • Write a vision for a product: open the product and click "Write a vision for" followed by its name. Vision opens with that product already picked.
- • Pick a product on a vision: when your organization has products, the vision form shows a Product field. Leave it on "Company-wide (no product)" for a vision that covers the whole organization.
- • Company-wide visions: visions without a product are labelled Company-wide in the Vision list.
- • See the whole picture: a product's page lists its visions, each with the strategies written for it.
Example
Delete a product from the Danger Zone at the bottom of its edit page. A product that still has visions cannot be deleted: the Danger Zone lists those visions with the message "Move or delete these visions first". Move each vision to another product or to Company-wide, or delete it, and then delete the product.
Why deletes are blocked
Visions and strategies are often linked to OKRs. Blocking the delete means your strategy work is never removed by accident along with the product.
